I  nearly died on this cache!

Most of my friends just rolled their eyes. I am a bit of a story teller and who wants to hear a boring story? But seriously… I am almost died… kind of.

A buddy and I just finished dinner at a nearby restaurant and I needed a little walking and a little fresh air to ease the plate of pasta I just devoured. I whipped out the smart phone and voila, a cache .36 miles away; that should be a nice evening stroll.

My buddy opted out of the cache run, so off I went solo. The night air was cool and calm, the moon was waxing gibbous allowing plenty of light for the walk. I read the cache description and made the appropriate deviation from concrete near the GZ and quickly located the cache.

It was cool, calm and quiet – very peaceful. I signed the logged, rummaged through the swag and was putting it all back when I heard something… it sounded like the wind picked up through the trees but the trees weren’t moving. I clicked on the flashlight on my phone and looked around. The sound got a little louder and then “Aaaarrrrroooooowwwwwww!” Coyotes!

Now, I know sound travels well up a calm quiet canyon, but their motion sounds don’t travel that far.

I decided to vacate the area…. quickly! Screw the long way around the fence. Four strands of barbed wire – I hurdled them like an gold medal Olympian. I hit the ground running on the other side headed for the street.

“Aaaarrrrroooooowwwwwww! Aaaarrr-Aaaarrr-Aaaarrrrroooooowwwwwww!” They were much closer now, but I had made it to the island in the middle of the street and a false sense of security that a meager fence and a lane of traffic would keep me safe.

“Aaaarrrrroooooowwwwwww!”

I started running again.

Okay, so maybe death was not immediately upon me, but I did scratch up both hands and one knee (not sure how my knee got scratched without my pants tearing) and managed to accelerate the digestion of my tasty pasta meal.

All in a day (er, night) of caching.

TFTC – I think…..
